Salzburg is a lovely city - lots of parks, old buildings, and statues. We spent a few hours there on the way to Munich.
Off this huge, wonderfully maintained flowery park
Is a smaller park with about 20 statues, all about as handsome as this one
We climbed halfway up the hill to the castle, only to find that to go any further we would have to pay admission (for all other cities we've visited, entrance to castle grounds is free; admission is only required to tour the inside or the museums). Still, this afforded a wonderful view of the city.

We had a picnic on the river, before heading to our next stop.

I am also a fan of The Sound of Music and visited Salzburg in August 2007!!! Thank you so very much for the photo's here for I love see other peoples photo's and to know that I am not the only person loving the movie! Interesting to think we all walked the same place and even took photo's on the same place. Wish I could go there again for there are still so many places I would love to see in Austria - wven Vienna where we stayed a few days. Has any one ever went into that castle on the hill? I would love to know how it looks inside - maybe the old furniture, the clothes, etc!! Julie Andrews made a lot of movies but TSOM is the best and I try to found out as much as I can on the internet about the movie. Greatings from a SOM fan in South Africa!
